Welcome Back to Quest!

My name is Lorena Diaz.  I will be teaching Lower School Physical Education (P.E.), starting from Pre-kindergarten through 4th grade.
P.E. will look and feel different this school year, but we will continue to:
  • Encourage a healthy and active lifestyle
  • Nurture sportsmanship in all aspects of competition
  • Widen each student’s sporting experience and enjoyment
  • Assist students in reaching their physical potential in a variety of sporting environments
I look forward to working with all of you.

Welcome to 2019-20 Lower School P.E.

My name is Lorena Diaz.  I will be teaching Lower School Physical Education, starting from Pre-K through 5th grade.  Additionally, I will be coaching Cross Country this Fall.  I am very excited to take on this new role.  One of our goals will be to take this opportunity to teach health and fitness as a way of life.  I look forward to working with all of you.

I am a parent of 4.  My son, Adolfo, graduated from Quest a year ago.  Nadia (8th), Gael (6th) and Ahtziri (2nd) currently attend Quest.  This will be our 7th year being a part of the Quest family.

January in Review

Thankfully the Polar Vortex of 2019 has come and went!  As we continue to thaw out from it we all are probably just a bit more appreciative for our temperature controlled dwellings and environments these days.  (Here’s a picture of Mr. Gibson getting the mail this past Wednesday morning)…

…meanwhile January was very eventful in PE!  We introduced hockey to the lower elementary and worked up to full fledged PE versions of hockey in the “upper el”.  Later in the month we played modified versions of bowling.

During our hockey unit, Declan brought his hockey stick in from his team and let his classmates feel what a “real” hockey stick is like.  He also spoke about his own experiences as a young player and even helped Mr. Gibson with some of the terminology!  Thanks, Declan!!

Our third graders playing 4 corner-bowling
First Grade playing “meet me in the middle” (from December)

Looking ahead in February, we will be playing basketball, volleyball learning about nutrition and developing an exercise routine!

Hello Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin!

Many families have enjoyed this vacation hotspot for generations but did you know Wisconsin Dells was founded as Kilbourn City in 1857 by Byron Kilbourn? To make it easier for tourists to identify Kilbourn City with the natural landscape for which it was famous, the name of the city was changed to Wisconsin Dells in 1931.  Over 4 million people visit each year!

November in Review

Winter may have arrived a little early but we’re starting to simmer in PE class thanks now thanks to our new pedometers.  Our intensity has been raised a notch as students are pushing themselves to earn as many steps as possible during their PE classes. After only our first week with them, our lower-school students were able to amass over 200,000 steps which translated into over 80 miles which put us is into the town of Janesville, Wisconsin!

Upper Elementary started playing Tchoukball, a handball-style game that is played by throwing a ball against an inclined tension net.  It involves teamwork, throwing, catching and geometry.

(Below) Lower School students played a variety of activities including a modified version of Tchoukball, “Germ Tag”, Juggling scarves, “Turkeys and Farmers” and more.

Step by Step

We have officially introduced our new pedometers in PE class!  These were purchased with the recent grant received last month and are excellent motivators for increased students’ intensity during PE.  The students have really stepped up their game this week and are eager to know the results from our destination city vote for our upcoming Step Challenge!!!  More news to come soon!
